So, D.Gray-Man 188 has just come out ne? I read it at onemanga.com at first and then someone directed me to Binktopia's translation, which I think made more sense. Especially in that part about Alma's regenerating and Kanda + torn limbs.
The Binktopia's translation is less confusing for me especially at the text that Johny read:
ONEMANGA:
The "Second Exorcist" that was borne from the research of the artificial disciple project.
Two test bodies.
The rampage of the test subject, Alma...
A total of 46 lab personnel.
It was a massacre.
The only one left alive was... another test subject.
Yuu.
Until Alma stops regenerating, Yuu...
Will be torn apart, limb by limb.
BINKTOPIA:
"Second Exorcist". Created in the artificial apostle program.

Test subject "Alma" went on a rampage...
and killed all the laboratory personel.
46 in total
The only survivor was a single test subject.
"Yuu".
Until Alma could no longer regenerate, "Yuu"...

See the difference? I think Binktopia's made more sense coz it explained how Alma "died", which was supposedly in Kanda's hand. So that whole "Torn apart limb by limb" stuff was about how Kanda mutilated Alma until he could no longer regenerate and the massacre stopped. Which was why Kanda was the only survivor, because he fought to survive, and he killed Alma. That should explain Kanda's expression when he saw Alma again, I think.
And also, it explained Kanda's behavior to the people around him. Cold, detached, trying not to care (which, I think, he failed, so far. Coz admit it, he DID care for his friends, right? :p).
If they were once close, Kanda and Alma, I mean, and then Kanda had to kill his "friend"... he'd think that he'd better off without a friend... ne?
I feel sooooo sad for Kanda in this chapter you know, I wanna hug him. How does it feel to be a nine-year-old and had to kill, mutilate the only friend he'd ever got? Ouch, my heart's twisted...
Oh, and Zhu's words are different to, in onemanga and binktopia:
There were some different wordings too, like the Earl's comment on how Kanda and Alma's fight wasn't sad and stuff, but I think that's the crucial one, that bit with how Alma (supposedly) died in Kanda's hand.
GAAAH~! I wanna write something out of it! I wanna know Kanda better, I wanna know what's actually in his head, having such a past >.<
Oh by the way, for some reason, I really like Kanda's face here:

RL has been rather hectic lately, that's why I'm sooooo sorry for unanswered comments, PMs and emails. I'll try to get around to replying soon!
My grandma's illness is getting worse, so yesterday my mom and dad flew to my hometown to see her. Coz my uncle, who is a doctor, told my mom that she might not last long. He even asked my Mom where she wants my grandma to be buried in (my mom's the eldest child, so.).
I hope my grandma will get better, or if she can't... well, if she really has to go, I hope it wouldn't be painful...
