...and... Another earthquake.
Oct. 16th, 2009 05:26 pmSo, at about 16.52 GMT+7, there was another earthquake. It's about 42 km from Ujung Kulon, about 200-300 km from Jakarta and only 10 km deep from the ocean's surface, and it was 6.4 in Richter scale (or so I heard).
Surprisingly enough, I didn't feel it, unlike the previous ones (and when I said that in my facebook, my best friend immediately went: "Oh please, Hon, you seriously didn't feel that?"). But judging from the distance, it's getting closer to here. :(
They say it might be a part of the ones happening in Sumatra a while back.
God, I hope there will be NO earthquake happening anywhere around here.
I haven't heard of any casualties, though. Guess I'll just stay tuned to the news.
Anyway. My bro will be home till Sunday. That means I can snag his laptop every night at ungodly hours and WRIIITE~! XD
I almost finished another Yullen fic (angst for this time :p), and I'll try to write one for TeFu as well. Or maybe I can start rewriting TSM chap 5. People are starting to hunt me down for not updating >.>
Oh, and a few months back I signed up as an artist for
dgm_bigbang. Won't have to worry bout that till December, though. :D
Anyway that's it for now. I hope next time I post I'll finally be able to post the picspam xp
OH! A question!
This is totally random but... Why is the 'expression' of someone dies is kicks the bucket? I mean.. Why 'bucket', of all things? Sorry, I'm not native so I don't know and I'm kinda curious XD;;

Date: 2009-10-16 04:35 pm (UTC)You know what's funny? (well, not really funny, since earthquakes and other phenomena can be quite the problem)
I dreamed about earthquakes last night. I've been getting these many reports and things about quakes in work, that I swear that yesterday I felt shaking! I mean, I think even the neighbor's dogs were barking, so....maybe....*shrugs*
Be really careful over there, hm? Seriously speaking: take a look around your house and check the conditions. See that no heavy furniture is too close to the edge of the stands, if there are chairs/sofas too close to bookshelves or other objects prone to fall, then change the arrangements. Take a look at the stairs and the roof conditions in the second story (if your house has it). Locate the safest spots, the easiest way to get out too.
*sighs* I want to think that I am not paranoic LOL But REALLY: it's the little things, dearest, it's the little things that end up saving lives.
So...yeah please write some Yullen and angst and bribe your brother for more laptop-time.
*sparkles*

Kick the bucket: either comes from "some people in some old times committed suicide by getting onto a bucket, getting some rope, noose around the throat, then they kicked the bucket and alas! simple and sad and who knows if it really worked like that...."
Or "some farmers in some old times killed the cuddly chubby pigs, by hanging them from a rear leg, slitting their throats to let the blood...uggh...like drain the blood, okay? so the piggies while dying, kept kicking and kicking the wood beam from which they were hanging...said wood beam was known in frechn as "buchet" and in english as "bucket". So, the pigs kicked the bucket....yuck"
All this gotten from internet urban dictionaries, since your question also sparked my interest...and I am bored at the office with free internet for my evil deeds.

Date: 2009-10-16 05:40 pm (UTC)So many reports about quakes, eh? Must be quite the problem ^^;
Thanks for the tips! It'd be useful for precaution (though I still hope no earthquake will happen anywhere near me) but we can never be too cautious ne? :D
Haha. You know what? I was just getting to the last part of the fic, when my bro went: "Let's watch something!" and since it's his laptop... Well, we ended up watching some random anime >.>
I'll get it done tomorrow though, just a little bit more and I'll be done with the fic XD
(Next problem would be to get to the internet. Rawr.) But yeah, thanks for the support and check it out when it's posted ne ^^

Date: 2009-10-17 02:41 am (UTC)Haha, you want an earthquake fic for your birthday? XD;
I'm not sure if I can write something like that.. But maybe I can try. Or if I can't, I'll just do the myth XD;

About the bucket thing, when we want to say that in Polish, we say 'to kick the callendar'. xD I've no idea why they choose a bucket for English. xD

Date: 2009-10-18 08:23 pm (UTC)...and something that just struck me - do you guys do sessions on how to act when an earthquake strikes in school? When I first went to Japan I was asked whether I knew what to do and sort of went: "...eeh, protect your head?"
anyways, shall be looking forward to pics ^__^

Date: 2009-10-19 01:51 am (UTC)Aaand... No, we don't do sessions >.>
Until recently, we don't have earthquakes this much, so yeah...

Date: 2009-10-20 03:11 am (UTC)Sorry about your love triangle. I really don't like those. For me, if I guy is taken, or someone else already likes him, I just forget about it and don't bother. Well, I'll just be friends.
I'm glad you got to see people you haven't seen for a long time.
Sorry about the earthquakes. There's been too many lately. Living in an earthquake zone has forced us to prepare for earthquakes. That's why buildings here are built or rebuilt to stand earthquakes, and once we start school, we talk about earthquake preparation and have drills.
I also wondered why it's called "kick the bucket." I don't know what death has to do with kicking and buckets.

Thanks! I just hope my family won't find out, or it will be trouble. One reason I had written the entry, The Suicidal Times was to help prevent suicide.

Thanks! I'm glad I didn't do anything bad to you. According to my family and certain people, I'm often doing something wrong.
Sorry your crush didn't like you.
I hope our departed pets are well in heaven.

Date: 2009-10-24 12:08 am (UTC)The phrase 'Kick the bucket' originally stems from the 16th century, even used by Shakespeare. Back then, a 'bucket' was also a wooden frame used to hold animals by their feet for the slaughter. They'd make a fuss and squirm around, so, 'Kick the bucket'.
I'm full of fun jeopardy facts. :D
(Also, did you know that lycopene is a substance that turns food red, like tomatoes and pomegranates, and holds cancer-preventing chemicals as well as being high in antioxidants, which are great for the skin and for losing weight).
